Top 10 Home Maintenance Tips for Women with Judy Browne

Are you interested in how you could change some of those home projects into a Do It Yourself Project while saving hundreds if not thousands of dollars in the process? If so you will not want to miss our March topic the Top 10 Home Maintenance Tips for Women with Judy Browne.

In this presentation you will:

Discover the Top 10 home maintenance items every woman should know when caring for her home.

Learn some basic maintenance tips with your plumbing (drains and shut offs) , electrical (GFCI’s), heating & air-conditioning (filters and maintenance)

Dive into some simple outdoor maintenance tips to help maintain your property

Judy Browne is the creator and founder of Workshop for Women, LLC, where she offers fun, hand-on classes in basic home improvement skills for women. She is also a certified home inspector with Pillar to Post.

Judy worked for 20 years as a manufacturing engineer and project manager for a large manufacturing company in Littleton. When the company began to send their operations overseas, Judy seized the opportunity to fulfill a long time dream: becoming a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. During that year, she trained hundreds of unskilled volunteers in the construction skills necessary to build a
home.

The idea for Workshop for Women began to grow while she spent 14 weeks of her volunteer year working on a Women Build home. “What impressed me most were the women who came to the site knowing little or nothing about construction and who left with renewed confidence and faith in their ability to accomplish anything they wanted,” Judy says. “I wanted more women to experience that.”

So when her volunteer year ended, reluctant to rejoin corporate America, Judy decided to use her engineering background and her experience with Habitat for Humanity to create hands-on workshops to teach women home maintenance and repair skills. “We offer women an opportunity to learn skills to develop self sufficiency, to become empowered through learning and to gain a renewed sense of confidence in their abilities,” Judy says. “And we offer a safe,
comfortable and supportive environment in which to learn.”

In 2007, spurred on by the experience and feedback of her students, Judy decided to begin the process to become a Certified Home Inspector. She spent nearly a year working with other home inspectors looking for someone willing to train and mentor her. In August of 2008 Judy started working with Scott Lunsford of Pillar to Post Home Inspections and received her certification with Pillar to Post in December of 2008. Since then Judy has performed more than 200 home inspections and prides herself on using the home inspection process as a way to educate homeowners about what is important in their homes.

This event is free to first time attendees or $35 per meeting.

Topic: Soaring Above the Turbulence
Time: 6:30-9:00pm
Cost: $10.00 at the door

Overview:

Join author, speaker and flight attendant Mary Catherine Carwile as she takes us into her world at 35,000 feet!

“Soaring Above the Turbulence” will have you laughing, inspired and wiping away a few tears. Find out what all those “dings” during flight really mean. Why does the Captain call during flight and what does he/she want?

Turbulence in the skies is to be expected. Turbulence in our lives, is part of our human experience, as well. Listening to Mary tell us about her turbulent times, both in the air and in her life, will convince you that you, too can soar above your turbulence. ”

Award winning author and inspirational speaker, Mary Catherine Carwile, weaves stories that touch people’s hearts. Becoming a flight attendant at age 56 was just one of many “jumping off a cliff” experiences Mary has had. Being one of those fearful flyers, it was a huge leap for her to begin a new career at 35,000 feet above the earth.

In her first book, Mary tells stories based on her own experiences with passengers. Heartstrings at 35,000 Feet has a Chicken Soup for the Soul feel. Mary can boast that several of her stories have been published in the Chicken Soup series.

Heart Strings and Pink Ribbons, Mary’s second book, tells of her breast cancer journey, just months after separating from her husband.

In Mary’s presentation, “Soaring Above The Turbulence,” you’ll be brought into her world of flying and of overcoming both the turbulence in the air and in your life.

There is laughter, for sure, but don’t forget the tissue. You may find yourself wiping tears away as Mary speaks.
